2007 Lilypons Wine & Koi Festival

What a perfect weekend to hold the Second Chesapeake DockDog's club event. Low humidity with blue, sunny skies – beautiful! Of course, there were lots of sunburned people wandering around but everyone had a smile on their face. Thank you to all the competitors who attended and all the volunteers who worked this weekend. Happy 4th Birthday to Buddy and Happy 2nd Birthday to Chip.
The battle for the 1st Place Pro Finals was fierce between the top four teams, all who jumped Super Elite jumps to get into the finals. TR Thompson & Charlie won with a 26' 11" jump - their first time into a Top Four Final! Alisa Wayland & Colby jumped their way to a 2nd Place finish with a 25' 9" jump with Angie Jones & Nestle close on their heels for 3rd Place finish with a 25' 8" jump. Jean Stavely & Abby Wingus finished a close 4th with a 24' 11" jump.
Congratulations to the five Chesapeake teams who made the Pro finals! 1st Place - TR & Charlie - 26' 11", 6th Place - Sharon Rodgers & Thunder - 24', 8th Place - Katie Brinton & Reggie - 23' 5", 10th Place - Brandy Fowler & Buddy - 22' 6", and 12th Place - Matthew Rutledge & Mishka - 21' 7". Matthew Rutledge & Mishka, were on FIRE this weekend. First, they earned their Senior Regional Title. Second, Matthew, a Junior Handler, beat his own father's Personal Best of 22' 11" with a jump of 23'. Third, Matthew & Mishka made it into their first Professional Finals. Go Matthew!
Chesapeake DockDogs would also like to welcome another brand new Junior Handler who competed in his first event this weekend - Nathan McCartney & Madison (Maddy). This was Nathan's first event and only Maddie's second jump. Nathan & Maddie jumped 17' 7" this weekend beating his mom's best of 15'. It's great to see more and more Junior Handlers coming to every event.
Another congratulations to the three Chesapeake teams who jumped big to make it into the Amateur Finals. Alan Keane & Diego battled it out with Jacqui Lytle & Riley for the Novice Title. Jacqui & Riley jumped to a 1st Place finish with a 8' jump while Alan & Diego came in 2nd Place with a 6' 1" jump. Diggs didn't have access to a couch all weekend long and we're thinking that affected his performance somewhat. Craig Martin & Guinness won the 1st Place Junior Finals with a 15' 10" jump. Craig's very own jump of 5' on Saturday did not qualify him for a final, however, he did receive style points for not losing his glasses and pictures up on the DockDogs website and at the bottom of this page.
We had a very large turnout for Extreme Vertical. The winner was Angie Jones & Nestle with a grab of 6' 4". Chesapeake Club members Sharon Sparks jumping both Destiny and Sky along with Carly Keane & Daisy Lou were unable to grab 4' 8" but they made a good attempt. TR & Charlie also missed their attempt at 6'. Brandy & Buddy grabbed the bumped at 4' 8" but just missed it at 4' 10" for a 6th Place finish. Sharon & Thunder finished in 2nd Place with a 6' 2" grab.
Several people decided that since Carly was judging they offered to jump Lil' Miss Daisy Looouuu. This turned into a fun competition complete with little pink Daisy Lou ribbons. 1st Place - Angie Jones - 21' 6", 2nd Place - Kellie Wisotzkey - 21', 3rd Place - Brandy Fowler - 20' 11", 4th Place - Alan Keane - 20' 3", and 5th Place - Sharon Rodgers - 19'. We're hoping that when Brandy judges at our next Suffolk event, she'll allow us to do a Jumping the Big, Yellow Lab Buddy contest.
